Welcome to PMP Chronicles — our fall newsletter! 🍂 As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp, our classrooms are alive with the wonder of autumn. Each theme this season is designed to meet every child right where they are — from our tiny babies (San Carlos) to toddlers and to our Preschoolers. We are so grateful for this community. Let’s learn, play, and jump in fall together!

Week 1 — Fall Exploration & Nature Science
🍼 3 – 18 Months (San Carlos)
  • Touch & feel tray — soft leaves, smooth acorns, crinkle paper for sensory exploration
  • High-contrast leaf pictures held up for babies to track with their eyes
  • Crinkle leaf sounds — shake foil leaves near baby's ears gently
  • Tummy time on an autumn-coloured mat with leaf mobiles above

  • Acorn sensory bin — scoop, pour, and explore real acorns
  • Squirrel puppet play and simple peek-a-boo hiding game
  • Brown play-dough acorn squishing & rolling
  • Sing: "Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel, shake your bushy tail"

  • Acorn count & sort by size (big/small, math)
  • Squirrel life cycle sequencing cards
  • Nature walk: collect leaves & acorns, draw in nature journals
  • Fingerprint acorn art — brown paint thumbprints

Week 2 — Identity, Feelings & Self-Discovery

  • Baby mirror time — caregiver holds baby in front of mirror, narrates what they see
  • Name song — teacher sings each baby's name in a hello song during circle
  • Texture touch book — baby explores soft, rough, bumpy pages
  • Footprint & handprint keepsake art — stamped in fall colours

  • Mirror play — "Who is that?" self-recognition activity
  • Body tracing on paper — trace hands and feet
  • My favorites board: food, color, animal (picture cards)
  • Sing body parts song with movement: head, shoulders, knees

  • Self-portrait drawing — "This is what I look like"
  • My family collage using photos from home
  • Feelings faces matching game: happy, sad, angry, surprised

Week 3 — Imagination, Story & Drama

  • Soft puppet play — teacher uses gentle animal hand puppets while singing quietly
  • Read aloud: simple board book fairy tale with bold bright pictures
  • Gentle rocking "Once upon a time" song — baby in caregiver's arms
  • Touch-and-feel story props — soft bear, tiny house, fabric pieces

  • Read aloud: "Goldilocks" — big book with picture walking
  • Three Bears dramatic play: big/medium/small bowls & beds
  • Porridge sensory play — warm oatmeal with spoons
  • Puppet show: The Three Pigs — simple retelling with teacher

  • Story order: beginning, middle, end picture cards — put them in order
  • Build the Three Pigs' houses — straw, sticks, and blocks
  • Who was kind? Who was tricky? Sort the fairy tale characters
  • Design a castle with recycled materials & paint

  • What happened first, next, and last? Retell a fairy tale to a friend
  • Draw and colour your favourite fairy tale character

Week 4 — Science, Senses & Social-Emotional Learning

  • Apple scent exploration — hold a cut apple near baby for gentle smell sensing
  • Red & green colour visual cards — high contrast apple pictures for tracking
  • Soft apple rattle — shake and listen, reach and grasp
  • Caregiver-led tasting for eating-age babies — pureed applesauce on spoon
  • Gentle lap bouncing to "Apple Tree" song
🌼 18 Months – 3 Years
  • Apple tasting: red, green, yellow — sweet vs. tart sensory
  • Apple stamping with paint — cut apple prints on paper
  • Applesauce making — watch and smell the process together
  • Sing: "Way Up High in the Apple Tree"
  • Sharing practice: pass the apple around the circle
  • "Kind hands" craft — trace hands and decorate with hearts
  • Feelings book read-aloud: "The Invisible String"

  • Apple parts: look at the skin, flesh, seeds, and stem
  • Will it sink or float? Drop the apple in water and guess first
  • Apple graphing: which colour apple do you like best? Make a chart
  • Apple life cycle: seed → tree → blossom → fruit
  • Kindness jar — add a pebble every time someone is kind
  • Draw your best friend and share three things you like about them
  • Compliment circle — say one kind word to the friend next to you

Week 5 — Movement, Teamwork & Healthy Bodies

  • Soft ball roll — caregiver rolls a soft ball slowly toward baby
  • Kick & reach — encourage kicking dangling soft toys during tummy time
  • Sensory movement — gentle clapping, swaying, and bouncing to music
  • Grasp & shake — lightweight bells and rattles for hand-eye coordination
🌼 18 Months – 3 Years
  • Ball rolling back and forth — take turns with a friend
  • Bean bag toss into a bucket — aim and throw
  • Balloon tap: keep it up in the air!
  • Touch and explore different sports balls — big, small, bouncy
🌿 3 – 4 Years
  • Mini Olympics day: running, jumping, and balancing stations
  • Team relay race — take turns and cheer for each other
  • Match the equipment to the sport — sorting activity
  • What sport do you love? — vote and make a class graph
⭐ 4 – 5 Years
  • Play team games — pass the ball and cheer for each other
  • Practice catching, throwing, and kicking outside
  • Talk about being a good sport — what do we do when we lose?
  • Draw your favourite sport and tell the class about it
